Reflection:

Day 1:  We are now all pros at the GPS! We all learned many things that we can take back to the classroom. Joy Greenwood, Dismal Swamp State Park Supt., did a great job with the animal markings and tracks. We learned a lot from her.  ovi share

Day 2:  Have a greater appreciation for trees and the environment.  Everyone seemed to do their part and help one another as needed.  Presentations by Ranger Tony and Mr. Aydlett were informative, educational and inspiring.

Classroom Application

Day 1

When you return to school in the fall, how will you use what you learned today in your classroom?

We would like to replicate this activity with our students.

How will you use what you learned today to train the teachers in your school?

We will use all of the resources; the information in the notebook and the collaboration among the participants.

Day 2

When you return to school in the fall, how will you use what you learned today in your classroom?

As a 3rd grade teacher I plan to use this to show students how to measure the height, circumference, diameter of a tree to correlate with math and science.  One teacher who is an AIG teacher plans to find dominate tree species near the school and identify trees that are in danger of being cut.  She also wants to educate hers students about wetlands.

How will you use what you learned today to train the teachers in your school?

Our group decided that when we take the information back to teach the teachers at school we would divide them into 3 groups and find 3 different animal/plant locations so they don't follow each other and stay on task better.

Most Intriguing Thing About Today...

Day 1:  The raccoon tracks (real ones!!) in the stream and the bear scratches on the tree!

Day 2:  The weather was better.  We felt more comfortable using the gps, enjoyed using the hands-on gadgets for trees.  Could still practice more  before teaching staff development.  Great team work and sense of humor.
